The Most Romantic Couples at the Globes

19 January 2010 [11:13] - TODAY.AZ
For actors giving thanks at award shows, it's not uncommon to hear touching shout-outs to family, agents, spouses and the man upstairs. But Sunday's Golden Globes telecast was positively a lovefest for stars, who called out their romantic partners in their acceptance speeches or cuddled with them on the red carpet and at the various after-parties.

From Sandra Bullock's tearful dedication to husband Jesse James to George Clooney's playful interaction with girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis on the red carpet to Jeff Bridges's insistence that camera crews pan to the audience to get a full shot of his wife while he accepted his best actor trophy, here are some of the night's sweetest soundbites and cutest sightings:

"To my husband, there is no – there is no surprise that my work got better when I met you because I never knew what it felt like for someone to have my back. So, thank you." – Best actress in a drama winner Bullock, emotionally thanking husband Jesse James for his support.

Tea Leoni, back together with husband David Duchovny after a brief separation, playfully grabbing onto her his shoulders at the end of the evening so he could guide her through the crowd, and telling PEOPLE that despite the rain, "We had so much fun," while Duchovny added, "I covered her."

Clooney, fresh off a marathon effort to organize a Haiti benefit telethon, all smiles as he squired Italian beauty Canalis to her the Globes. The pair spent the evening hand-in-hand, and during commercial breaks could be found chatting animatedly with another loved-up pair: Matt Damon and wife Lucy.

"First of all, I'd like to thank Susan Downey for telling me that Matt Damon is going win. So don't bother to prepare a speech. . . . I mean, I really don't want to thank my wife because I could be bussing tables at the Daily Grill right now if not for her. Jesus, what a gig that would be." – Best actor in a comedy winner Robert Downey Jr. making a wise-crack aimed at his wife, Susan, while accepting his speech.

Backstage he showered her with more compliments, telling PEOPLE he was grateful to work with Levin, a producer, on Sherlock because "it's much better to spend four months together than four months apart."

"I am in the midst of my dream – and when I look into the eyes of the man that I stood next to at 14-years-old and I said to him, 'One day we going to be stars,' and he said, 'You first.' And we walked this red carpet together tonight, Sidney, I love you more than you will ever know, baby." – An emotional best supporting actress in a drama winner Mo'Nique on husband and manager, Sidney Hicks.

Josh Duhamel gallantly held the lavender train on wife Fergie's lavender dress as they made their way down the soggy red carpet. Despite a bumpy year, the couple renewed their vows earlier this month – and were all smiles at the show.

"Thank you Hollywood Foreign Press for this and for acknowledging all of – all of the folks – I'm looking at you, sweetheart. 33 years. My wife, my beautiful wife. Get a shot of her. You got a shot." – Bridges, drawing attention to wife Susan Geston while collecting his best actor in a drama award for Crazy Heart.

It was a low-key and affectionate date night for Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban. At the Weinstein after-party, they were spotted holding hands while chatting with friends and sipping soda before heading out together to hit the CAA party.

"And as for you, Professor Mary Yeager of UCLA and my wife of 28 years, I love you, baby. This one is yours." – Dexter's John Lithgow, who said he enjoyed "creeping out the entire country," paying tribute to his wife while accepting his best supporting television actor trophy.

"And my beautiful, wonderful husband – the best thing I ever did was marry you." – The Good Wife's Julianna Margulies calling out her lawyer husband Keith Lieberthal while accepting her first-ever Golden Globe.
