Thus, the total number of countries celebrating Novruz reached 13.
"Mongolia has joined the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity with the "Novruz" nomination, which already includes 12 countries, including Azerbaijan! Now the dossier unites 13 countries. We warmly congratulate Mongolia on this occasion!," the statement reads.
Note that Novruz marks the arrival of spring and is celebrated on the vernal equinox.
In 2009, the Novruz holiday was inscribed onto UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List.
The holiday was given the status of an official holiday in Azerbaijan by a presidential decree dated 13 March 1990.
