Italian scientists together with their Azerbaijani colleagues are studying the isotopic and chemical composition of the minerals and gases in the Gadabay and Dashkasan regions.
Azerbaijan, which is located in the South Caucasus and on the shores of the Caspian Sea, is famous for its rich mineral resources and has promising area for researches.
In addition to the well-known oil and gas deposits, Azerbaijan has rich sources of natural minerals that are useful in chemistry, metallurgy, construction, and health therapy.
For this purpose, Professor Franco Tassi, assistant professor Federico Sani, and researcher Maria Laura Balestier from the University of Florence in the Italian National Research Centre (CNR) are on visit to Azerbaijan.
Scientists will conduct joint field studies together with the head of the Division of Fluid Dynamics of Sedimentary Basins at the Geology and Geophysics Institute of the Azerbaijan National Sciences Academy (ANAS) and ANAS members Akbar Feyzullayev and Chingiz Aliyev.
As part of the one-week project, scientists will carry out research on mineral and thermal waters and gas yields. Also, samples of water and local gases will be sent to Italy for the further isotopic and geochemical analyses.
The purpose of the research is to determine the origin of these items based on the study of geological conditions and the isotopic and geochemical composition of thermal waters and gases such as radon, helium, argon, hydrocarbons and carbon dioxide.
Another joint research project is currently being carried by ANAS and the CNR titled "Manifestations of fluids in the eastern part of the Big Caucasus and Talysh: Fluid geochemistry, structural and geodynamic control."
