The Cidade das Artes Concert hall in Brazil hosted a week of Azerbaijani culture with the support of the Culture and Tourism Ministry.
A concert program was shown with the participation of famous Azerbaijani art figures, featuring mugam and folk dances.
For the first time that kind of event was held in South America, and its target was to develop bilateral relations and promote Azerbaijani culture abroad.
Also, a photo exhibition titled “Azerbaijan yesterday, today and tomorrow” was held as part of the week.
Azerbaijan`s Ambassador to Brazil, Elnur Sultanov in his speech spoke about “developing cooperation” between the two countries, saying this event can contribute to expanding relations mainly in the cultural field.
Azerbaijani cinemas were shown as part of the event. In 2013, Brasilia hosted Azerbaijani movies at the "Mostra de filmes do Azerbaijao" festival held in the cities of Rio de Janeiro and San Paolo.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1993. The Brazilian Embassy in Azerbaijan was opened in 2009 and Azerbaijan's Embassy was established in Brazil in 2012.
Since 2013, Azerbaijani capital, Baku, considered the pearl of the Caspian Sea, and Rio de Janeiro, became twin cities. The law goes on to say that both Baku and Rio de Janeiro are cultural heritage centers of the world - visited by thousands of tourists every year.
