The Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre in Baku will host the premiere of “Cavalleria rusticana” by Italian Pietro Mascagni on February 14.

The one act opera in a new format by Baumann and conductor Cornelia undoubtedly is an outstanding event in the creative activity of the theater, and in the cultural life of the city.

The head of the Azerbaijan theatre invited to Baku Ludwig Baumann, the famous master of German opera art, who worked many years in the Munich Opera and Ballet Theater, and now is a leader of Bavarian Festival of Opera Music.

German conductor, Cornelia von Kerssenbrofk, main conductor of the Bavarian Festival of Opera Music also was also invited to the country’s capital.

The new play brings together many national and leading theatre soloists including national artist Garina Kerimova, honored artist Farid Aliyev, Sabina Asadova, Sabina Vahabzada and Anton Fershtandt.

The play’s choirmaster is honored art artist Sevil Hajiyeva, while concertmaster is Roza Mammadova.

The first play of this opera was staged at the Teatro Costanzi in Roma in 1890. The opera is distinguished by its dazzling music and acute dramatic story.

The opera's symphonic Intermezzo has figured in the sound track of several films, most notably in the opening of Raging Bull and in the finale of The Godfather Part III, which also featured a performance of the opera as a key part of the film's climax.

The performance will be staged at 19:00. The address of the venue is 28 May street, 8. The cost of the tickets is 13 and 16 manats.
