e·phem·er·a is an art exhibition that will open at the Baku Museum of Modern Art in Baku on December 20 as the third in a series of young curator exhibitions, supported by non-profit organization YARAT.
The exhibition curator’s idea is based on mythology motifs in artworks by eight artists: Eliyar Alimirzayev, Rasim Babayev, Kamal Ahmad, Zakir Huseynov, Ujal Hagverdiyev, Yelena Hagverdiyeva, Niyaz Najafov and Altay Sadikhzadeh.
Every work has a myth at its heart, captured in the lines of classical poetry or portrayed in paintings by prominent artists, in invisible ties that bind numerous paintings and images encoded in literary works, which contain meaningful parallels, symbols and allegories, formed by centuries of history. All of this content, according to the authors, characterize us and our current existence.
Cooperation between the Museum and YARAT began more than a year ago following the 'Curatorial and Mediating Practices in Modern Art' master classes held by Sabina Shikhlinskaya, an honored artist of Azerbaijan and independent curator.
During 2014, the Museum’s main exhibition hall already hosted the NUDA VERITAS and MEGAPOLIS projects, considered as successful experiments on the reassessment of the museum collection. In both cases, the idea that arose within the framework of the training course expanded to the size of a fully-fledged art project. The project participants had unlimited access to the archives and storerooms of MoMA and thus the audience receive a fresh interpretation of familiar subjects.
The exhibition will open for the visitors from 11:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m from every Tuesday to Sunday till January 19, 2015. Admission fee is 5 manats.
