Baku hosted mugham concert within UNESCO event

The International Mugam Centre has hosted a grandiose mugham concert for the participants of the 8th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Commission for Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Baku.

People's Artist of Azerbaijan Alim Gasimov and his daughter, Honoured Artist Fargana Gasimova performed “Shur” mugham in the concert which was given a big round of applause of the audience.

Mugham, ancient cultural heritage of Azerbaijani people, has become common moral wealth of large masses for long.

Azerbaijani mugams were included in “Music sources” series released by UNESCO back in 1975.

They have also been played in the world-famous movie “Stalker” by Andrei Tarkovsky.

Moreover, NASA sent samples of Azerbaijani mugham to space in 1977.
