A first art exhibition of famous Russian-Israeli modern impressionistic artist Leonid Afremov in Azerbaijan was launched at the Khatai Centre of Miniature Art on July 15.

The exhibition underway in the capital Baku, which will last until July 21, features 12 works by Afremov.

"All the 12 works put up for the exhibition are for sale. At the same time, visitors can choose paintings in the catalog and buy them," said Shahin Agasoy, the exhibition organizer.

Those who wish to purchase a newly created oil painting by Afremov will be provided with certificates signed by the artist.

"Leonid Afremov wanted to visit Baku very much, but his visit was postponed till the fall of this year. By the way, we sent him photos of the Maiden Tower, and maybe Afremov will paint a picture dedicated to Baku," Agasoy said.

Most of the painter's pictures reflect his personal memories and emotions. The drawings stand out for the use of bright colors.

Afremov tries to convey his feelings through painting, rather than through stories, and have the viewer see the world through his eyes. Afremov's works attract people of all social, ethnic and age groups, with each item dwelling upon his personal inspiration.

Afremov works mainly with a palette knife and oils. He developed his own technique and style, which is unmatched and distinguishes him from other painters.

Afremov is mainly known as a self-representing artist who promotes and sells his work exclusively over the internet with very little exhibitions and involvement of dealers and art galleries.

The painter loves cats and other animals. He has created many paintings of cats, dogs, horses, tigers and even giraffes.

The 58-year old artist was born in Vitebsk, Belarus. In 1978, he graduated from Vitebsk Art School. Afremov shot to fame after he moved to Israel in the 1990s. Currently he lives in the picturesque resort town of Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Afremov's works are presented in the genre of urban landscape. His creations exhibited in Baku are dedicated to fall; this season protrayed by Afremov is colorful, clear, warm, encouraging and full of fire.
