Baku to take in 5th Qara Qarayev Int'l Festival of Contemporary Music

The Azerbaijan Ministry of Culture and Tourism will organize the 5th Qara Qarayev International Festival of Contemporary Music in the capital Baku on April 14-19.

Orchestras, bands and soloists from France, Germany, the Netherlands, Russia, Austria and Azerbaijan will perform in the festival.

Uzeyir Hajibeyli Azerbaijan State Symphonic Orchestra under Rauf Abdullayev will open and close the festival. The festival will feature performance of works by Qarayev, Sch?nberg, Respighi, Ligeti, Berio, Shostakovich — composers who greatly influenced their contemporaries and opened a new way of composer`s thinking in the twentieth century.

The festival will also feature a scientific conference at the Museum Center and concerts at the International Mugham Center, the Rashid Behbudov State Song Theatre, the State Philharmonic Hall after Muslim Magomayev and State Philharmonic`s camera and organ music hall.

The play Variete to the music of unpredictable dreamer Mauricio Kagel will be shown on the stage of the Theatre for Young People. The play is one of the most extravagant ones of the modern European classics.

The art director of the festival is Azerbaijani Honored Art Worker, Faraj Qarayev.
