Yarat! Contemporary Art Space will hold master classes from February 10 to March 10. The master classes of honored artist of Azerbaijan and independent curator, member of the International Committee of Museums and collections of modern art-CIMAM Sabina Shikhlinskaya on 'Curator and mediator practices in modern art' will be held in Russian.
Curator does not merely technically arrange the exhibitions, the work of the museum or other art projects but is also a co-author, since he defines the actuality of any topic and is actively cooperating with the authors helping them to implement their ideas and projects.
The master class in theoretical and practical knowledge about the professional curator activity will be held for the first time in Azerbaijan.
Sabina Shikhlinskaya is an Azerbaijani artist and independent curator. She works in painting, video and photography. Being well known with her early modernistic paintings, in the 90s she transitioned to contemporary art. She is one of the pioneers of conceptual art in Azerbaijan. Shikhlinskaya's work explores actual problems of relationship between individual and society. In the art projects curated by Sabina Shikhlinskaya, the social subject is also of high priority. She is a member of Azerbaijan Artists Union since 1988, has a title of Honored Artist of Azerbaijan Republic, a member of CIMAM, International Committee for Museums and Collections of Modern Art from 2009. She educated in Vera Mukhina Institute of Arts, St. Petersburg, Russia (1981-1983), in Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts (1983-1988). In 1983 she started to participate in art exhibitions in Azerbaijan and abroad. Since 1993 Sabina Shikhlinskaya has curated more than 50 exhibitions and projects in both Azerbaijani and international venues.
