A decorative art exhibition called “The Secrets of the Venetian masks” was opened at the Museum Center of the Azerbaijan Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
The exhibition devoted to the history of Venice, the Venice Carnival and its trademark Masks, are full of amazing stories and secrets.
Project originator and curator of the project is Museum Centre Director Liana Vazirova.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Adalat Valiyev noted that the country has hosted numerous cultural events in the recent years.
With its unique colors Venice has always inspired artists, who have all endeavored to portray many corners of the city of unique beauty. The exhibition`s theme has stirred great interest among artists and stimulated them into creating a host of new paintings devoted to Venice especially for this exhibition.
The retrospective works, “Masquerade” by Sara Manafova and Margarita Karimova-Sokolova`s watercolors, “Pearls of Venice”, “Sorrow and Tenderness”, “Passion” and others are also on display.
The exhibition features approximately 95 works by 65 authors. Venetian masks are another important focus of the exhibition. According to longstanding tradition these masks are made by hand and are considered a distinct form of art. You can gaze at these unique works for hours and still not find any identical ones. They are painting, jewellery and sculpture in one artifact.
Films on the history of Venice, the Venice Carnival and Masks were also screened during the exhibition.
The popular Gunay children`s theatre presented the Maresca dance from “Romeo and Juliet”.
