“He was a giant with Brown Eyes”, film of Swiss director Eileen Hoffner was demonstrated in Moscow as part of the Documentary Film Festival ArtDocFest.
The film participated in the prestigious film festivals, including Rotterdam International Film Festival, Havana Film Festival, VISIONS DU REEL - Festival International de Cinema (Nyon, Switzerland), Amiens International Film Festival (France), International Independent Film Festival IndieLisboa (Lisboa, Portugal), Bogota Film Festival (Colombia), Film Festival in Seoul (Southern Korea) and Minsk International Film festival “Listopad” (Belarus).
The film has received award for the best director in the Femina Film Festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and also get positive reviews from the critics, press and audience.
‘He Was a Giant with Brown Eyes’ is the first feature-length documentary film made by Eileen. The film tells the story of two sisters brought up in an ordinary Azerbaijan family, and changes taken place in their life after their parents’ divorce and emigration of their mother with one of them to Switzerland.
Eileen Hofer, 35, currently is a press officer of one of the largest festivals. Before dealing with film-making, Eileen worked as a journalist and an editor-in-chief for one of the Swiss magazines. In 2004, Eileen took part in Berlinale Talent Campus, a creative academy and public forum for hundreds of perspective film-makers from all over the world. Eileen is the author of several short-length films. All of them participated in a number of prestigious film festivals including those in Locarno, Clermont-Ferrand, Palm-Springs, Rotterdam, Brooklyn, Aspen, Vila-de-Conde, Namour and won dozens of awards, including the New Generation Prize of the SSA/Suissimage (Solothurn Film Festival).
