Azerbaijani movie shortlisted for int'l festival of Muslim cinema

The “The Lighthouse” (Mayak), a movie by Azerbaijani filmmakers, has been shortlisted for the international festival of Muslim cinema.

The international festival of Muslim cinema`s ceremony will be held in Kazan capital of Tatarstan, Russia, on September 5-11, 2012. All award-winning films and filmmakers will be announced publicly and to the media at this time.

The International Festival of Muslim Cinema will be organized as an annual forum of Muslim cinematographers, a place of regular meetings and an exchange of experience of further cooperation among filmmakers of Russia and the Muslim countries and the entire world. In festival can take part not only Muslims, but also the representatives of other faiths creating films, popularizing universal spiritually-moral and cultural traditions. The purpose of the given festival is creation of objective representation in Russian and both the world community about an Islam and Muslims. The high award of the festival is the statuette.

The author of the script is Esmira Eyub, producer Fariz Ahmadov, cameraman Nizami Abbas, art director Ibrahim Aminov, composer Rauf Aliyev, film editor Rovshan Vasifoglu, creative producer Jamil Guliyev, producers Rashad Gasimov and Rasim Salmanov.

The film is based on the conflicts between a military man and his drug addict son. The film was made by results of the contest ‘Bu meydan, bu ekran 2011? held by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
