Azeri writer: ‘Nomination for Nobel Prize is great honor for me’

Azerbaijani writer, rector of the Baku Slavic University Kamal Abdullayev, who was included in the official list of nominees for the Nobel Prize in Literature, has held a press conference. He said the Nobel Committee had sent three letters to the Baku Slavic University in connection with the putting forward of a candidate.

“From 2007-2015 the Nobel Committee sent three letters to our university asking to put forward a candidate for the Prize in literature. The Committee addresses thousands of letters to different institutes of language and literature every year asking to nominate their candidates.”

“My candidacy was put forward by the professors and teaching-staff of the university, and it is a great honor for me,” Abdullayev said.

He noted: “They told me that three of my novels were accepted for the nomination, including The wizards’ valley, Nobody to forgive and Unfinished manuscript. And the last letter from the Nobel Committee said that my candidacy was registered, and Unfinished manuscript novel was approved.” Abdullayev said the novel was translated into many languages, which was covered by a number of foreign media.
