An exhibition of the young Azerbaijani artist Maryam Alakbarli titled «Novruz - the new day” has opened at Moscow Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition, which presents over 80 works by Maryam Alakbarli, was organized by the Moscow Government, Moscow Department of Culture, Russian Academy of Arts and Moscow Museum of Modern Art. The exhibition features portraits, still lifes, landscapes painted during last three years in different techniques.

Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu said the exhibition is an important cultural event in the life of Russia and Azerbaijan. "Maryam with her talent today has opened a new world both for herself and for those who see her paintings. Her power of inner expression, her sense of color is amazing and dazzling. A huge role of course, belongs to her parents, who deserve sincere words of gratitude," said the ambassador.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the exhibition’s supervisor, Director of the Moscow House of Photography Olga Sviblova highly valued Maryam Alakbarli’s works. “The art helps solving many problems. I am truly delighted to see works having such a powerful energy. I am grateful also to the parents of Maryam, who have given her so much love,” said Sviblova.

Sviblova said she has seen Maryam’s paintings by chance and mixed them up with famous Russian, German, French avant-garde artists’ works. "Her works are sparkling, I feel a heat coming from them. Her paintings were made with such energy, that I could neither eat nor sleep, I was so fascinated,” said Sviblova. "I congratulate the national culture, in which Maryam has opened her own page," she added.

"Such talent is a rarity, many artists are trying to create an image of simple lines, but she already knows how to do it," said president of the Russian Academy of Arts Zurab Tsereteli. Tsereteli was so inspired by Maryam works that offered to organize similar exhibitions in France and the United States, as well as give Maryam the title of Honored Artist. "Maryam is a rare phenomenon in the arts. She is already a painter. This is a great joy for the Azerbaijani state to have such a talent like Maryam. She deserves every award," said Zurab Tsereteli.

Envoy of the Russian President for International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydkoi speaking at the exhibition said: “Maryam’s parents Ogtay bey and Fatma khanum Abdullazadeh are the Azerbaijani family of intellectuals, a family having a particular fine and delicate approach to world. And we find the wealth of the experience of world in Maryam’s works. She has a great soul, an amazing intuition and impressive sense of form," added Shvydkoy.

Maryam’s mother Fatma Abdullazadeh, Chief of the Division of Humanitarian Policy of the Presidential Office of Azerbaijan, thanked the organizers of the exhibition, personally those who promoted the opening of the exhibition in Moscow.

"The more love and enthusiastic eyes will be around Maryam, the better she will draw, because she has a fantastic ability to collect our love and return it to us twice. And our world will be more beautiful, will be happier and kinder,” said Fatma Abdullazadeh.

She expressed special thanks to the curator of the exhibition Olga Sviblova, Vasili Tsereteli, ambassador of Azerbaijan to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu, Adviser for Humanitarian Affairs of the Azerbaijan’s Embassy Nigar Akhundova, "Baku" magazine and Maryam’s teachers, in particular Inna Kostina.

"I am fascinated by the talent of Maryam and I think it is a phenomenon in contemporary art," said famous Russian artist and photographer Vladimir Mishutin, who works with children with Down syndrome.

Maryam’s ability to express herself through the riot of colors, her courage in dealing with forms and colors, creating a bright, harmonious, peaceful world, amazed the visitors. Many of her paintings are touching and pure as a child. Perhaps "purity" is most appropriate word to describe her artworks.

The exhibition of Maryam Alakbarli will run until April 8 at the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. Presentation of Maryam’s album will take place on March 30.
