Kars-Igdir-Nakhchivan railway project is under development, Turkish transport minister

According to Turkish transport minister Gabib Soluk, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will serve for the development of trade turnover between Turkey and Azerbaijan.

The minister said on Turkish part of the route works will be completed in 2012. After finishing tunnel construction and infrastructure works, the railway will be put into operation, the minister said.

The Kars–Tbilisi–Baku railway, or Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railway, is a regional rail link project to directly connect Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan. The project was originally to be completed by 2010 but is now scheduled for completion by 2012.

The minister also said Kars-Igdir-Nakhchivan railway project is under the preparation and a tender will be announced for the project in next months.
