BP purchases Rolls-Royce generators for West Chirag Platform

BP-Azerbaijan, a subsidiary of BP, has purchased three Rolls-Royce generators for a combined total of $50 million for the West Chirag oil production platform, the company reported in a news release. The platform is currently operating in the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli field of the Azaeri section of the Caspian Sea.

The generators, will be shipped in July by sea from Mount Vernon, in the United States. They are expected to arrive at the site in October 2011. Each generator weighs 185 tons and has a cpacity of 27 Mega-watts.
