SOFAZ takes part in 5th EITI Global Conference

A delegation headed by the Chairman of the National EITI Committee, a member of the EITI International Board and the Executive Director of the State Oil Fund of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOFAZ), Shahmar Movsumov, is participating in the 5th EITI Global Conference in Paris on March 2-3, 2011.

During the first day of the Conference various issues, including reelection of the EITI Board and achievements on EITI implementation in different countries, were discussed.

Azerbaijan was reelected to the EITI International Board and Shahmar Movsumov was elected Board's alternative member, SOFAZ reported.

Movsumov made a speech on progress in EITI implementation in Azerbaijan. Movsumov mentioned that, as a result of implementation of EITI all citizens can get information about every dollar received by the government from the sale of each barrel of oil, each cubic meter of gas.

Azerbaijan joined the EITI in 2003. Azerbaijan became the first country that become a full member of this initiative.
