Head of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev: Oil reserves in Azerbaijan hit 2bln tons

The oil reserves in Azerbaijan total two billion tons, and recoverable gas reserves - 2.2 trillion cubic meters, said the head of SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) Rovnag Abdullayev at a meeting with members of the scholarship program and young professionals.

According to him, in 2010 Azerbaijan reached high indicators in the oil and gas production - 51 million tons and 27 billion cubic meters of gas respectively.

Abdullayev said that in recent years, Azerbaijan has ensured its energy security and turned from gas importer into gas exporter. Now, the Azerbaijani gas is exported to Georgia, Turkey, Russia.

In 2010, oil and gas enterprises of SOCAR produced 7.28 million tons of oil and more than seven billion cubic meters of gas. Together with foreign partners, SOCAR participates in such major projects as the development of the block of Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli oil and gas fields and Shah Deniz gas field in the Caspian Sea.
