Azercell president: Azerbaijan to be the first one launching 4G

Azerbaijan will become the first country in the world, where 4G network will be put into operation, said the President of Azercell Telekom Company Ali Agan. According to him, the launch of the 4G network will be possible after addressing regulatory issues.

Currently, the Company is fully prepared for the transition to 3G, and soon expects to receive a license to provide services in this standard.

Overall, since 2008, significant investments have been made to prepare the network to switch to 3G.

"Our network is fully ready for commercial launch of 3G network. We are ready to launch 3G not only in Baku, but also at regional level. After completing the licensing procedure, we can launch the 3G network within several hours," said Agan.

Right now, Azercell's request for a license to provide services in 3G standard, is considered by the Ministry of Communications. It is expected that it will be available soon.

Today Azercell covers 54.6% of the mobile communication market of Azerbaijan. The territory of the operator's network coverage is 80%. Number of subscribers as of the end of 2010 exceeded 4.2 million. Subscriber base over the last year increased by 300,000 people.

Last year the Company installed 170 base stations, and the total number has reached 1,794 units. Azercell cooperates with 406 roaming partners.
