
BP and its partners have started the implementation of three new community development projects, the company said in a press release.
The support is provided within projects organized by the participants of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli and Shah Deniz fields, as well as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline and the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline, and aim to intensify programs to build skills and capacity.
The first project aims to form skills for youth in the economic sphere. It will cover 30 communities in the country's five western regions hosting the BTC and South Caucasus pipelines (Goranboy, Samukh, Shamkir, Tovuz and Agstafa), as well as three communities (Umid, Sahil and Sangachal) in the Garadagh district.
BP and its partners will allocate $500,000 for this project. The local Umid NGO will also allocate $133,500. The project will begin in November 2011 and end in April 2012.
The second project envisages assisting families with children by creating conditions for the use of qualitatively improved and innovative preschool programs. The project will cover five communities in the Shamkir, Tovuz and Samukh regions. It is implemented by the Innovative Training Center. The project's implementation will also begin in November and will last 12 months. The cost of the project is $101,500.
The third project envisages the establishment of a business center for youth under the Ganja Educational and Professional Center. It will cover selected communities in the Goranboy, Yevlakh, Shamkir, Agstafa, Samukh and Tovuz regions. The project will be implemented in November 2011 and will run until May 2012. It costs $99,000. The project is implemented by the Center for Research, Training and Resources for Community Development in Azerbaijan.
