Azerbaijan to supply gas to Iran from February 1

President of Azerbaijan's state oil firm, SOCAR, has said his country will start exporting gas to Iran from February 1.
Rovnag Abdullayev said an agreement signed between the two countries envisaged the supply of Azerbaijan`s gas to Iran for five years.

“The agreement stipulates that in 2011 Azerbaijan will export one billion cubic meters of gas to Iran, with the volume to be reviewed every year.”

Abdullayev said: “Iran has been exchanging gas with other countries for many years. These have mostly been swap and short-term agreements in winter months.”

“Azerbaijan has modernized its infrastructure. We have completed the work at the Astara Gas Compressor Station. And in accordance with the instructions of the two countries` presidents we are ready to supply gas to Iran,” the SOCAR chief added.
