Contract for development of Azerbaijan, five other EU neighbours signed

The European Commission and the Eurochambres (European Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry) have signed an ˆ8.75 million contract for the implementation of the East-Invest Project, the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI) Info Centre reported Monday citing a press release from EuropeAid.

The European Union will contribute with ˆ7 million to this project which covers the countries of Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia from November 2010 to November 2013. East-Invest aims to contribute to the economic development of the Eastern Neighbourhood region and to the improvement of its business environment.

EU's Eastern Neighbourhood Region encompasses Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova and Russia.

According to the report, East-Invest will help in developing business networking between EU and Eastern Neighbourhood Region public and private organisations, through encouraging public-private dialogue in order to promote participation of private sector in decision making; facilitating exchange of best-practices and supporting creation of partnerships between EU and Eastern Neighbourhood companies and developing the capacity of Eastern Neighbourhood SME support organisations.

Main activities will focus on Technical Assistance for SMEs and for Business Support Organisations from the beneficiary countries.
