Azerbaijan, Iraq sign cooperation agreement

The Azerbaijani and Iraqi governments signed an agreement on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation on November 10.
The document was signed by Azerbaijan`s Deputy Premier Abid Sharifov and Iraqi Minister of Trade Safa Al-Din Muhammad Al-Safi. Prior to the signing ceremony, Sharifov and Al-Safi had a conversation, during which they said historical and cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Iraq had deep roots.

Sharifov noted the volume of trade between the two countries constituted $ 50-60 million, added, “however, this falls well behind the potential of our countries”. Sharifov underlined the necessity of expanding the bilateral economic cooperation, saying “today`s Agreement will laid the foundations for strengthening it”.

Muhammad Al-Safi in turn said his country was keen on development of cooperation with Azerbaijan. The Minister pointed out his visit would open new ways of cooperation between the two countries. “We need support of friendly countries, including Azerbaijan to establish stability in our country.”

He also expressed hope that such visits would contribute to boosting bilateral ties in various spheres.
