Azerbaijan will be able to increase the production of legume-cereal crops, including buckwheat, if farmers, owning arable land, are greatly interested in it, Azerbaijani Minister of Agriculture Ismet Abbasov said today.
"Of course, if our farmers show great interest in the production in this area, then the volume will be increased. Today, private lands are owned by farmers. No one can dictate the conditions to them. Only recommendations can be made," minister said.
A kilogram of buckwheat cost 0,7-0,8 manat on the domestic market in spring. Today one can buy it for 2,5-3 manat. The sharp jump in prices for buckwheat is associated with abnormal heat and fire, killing most of the harvest in countries where it is being grown.
