Azerenergy project within UN Framework Convention for Climate Change steps into final stage

"Sumgayit power plant construction project" has stepped into final stage of the Clean Development Mechanism upon a decision of the Executive Board of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, a statement said. The project was proposed by Azerenergy's Ecology Department.

According to the report, the decision was taken immediately after the successful completion of the audit process (validation) of the project by the German company TUV.

Up to now, none of the projects of Clean Development Mechanism from Azerbaijan has reached that stage.

Sumgayit electric power station was launched on Nov. 19, 2009.

The report also noted that Azerenergy holds leading positions in Azerbaijan on the projects submitted within the UN Framework Convention for Climate Change, as well as the agreement on reduction of certified dioxide gas.
