The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) continues work aimed at increasing production at old fields.

SOCAR reports that they have put into operation well #471 at Qum Adasi (Sand Island) field. The well with depth of 3,415 m has debit of 35 tons of oil a day and 50,000 cu m of gas.
The first well at this field was drilled in 1952 and produced 100 tons of oil a day. Official operation of Qum Deniz field started in 1955. For 53 years it was produced 28 million tons of oil and 11 bn cu m of gas from the field. Today the field is numbering 56 wells producing 250 tons of oil a day. Two more wells will be drilled at the field before the end of 2009.
