The Ministry of Environment & Natural Resources of Azerbaijan has new prospective areas in the course of geological prospecting and survey works nearby southern slope of the Greater Caucasus, in the Minor Caucasus and Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Environment minister Huseyn Bagirov says that during works it was discovered great reserves of raw materials for cement production to allow increase of domestic cement manufacture capacity in the country.

“It testifies that Azerbaijan can cease importing raw materials that is very important for development of construction sector. At the expense of raw materials it will be possible to produce two or three fold more cement in Azerbaijan that will lead to annual cement production growth up to 7-8 million tons,” Bagirov said.

In 2008 cement demand was expected at the level of 4.3 million tons versus cement demand in 2007 which reached 3.7 million tons.
