Azerbaijan imposes ban on import of animal products from America

On April 27, Azerbaijan imposed ban on import of cattle-breeding products from the entire American continent, Azerbaijani Agricultural Ministry Veterinary Service spokesperson Yolchu Khanvali said.
"We imposed ban on import of animal products due to outbreak of "swine flu" in U.S., Mexico and Brazil," Khanvali said.

Azerbaijan does not import animal products from Mexico and Brazil. Poultry products were bought from the U.S. a month ago, he said.

Khanvali said swine farms have switched to serious prevention regime and veterinary bodies in the regions have taken control of the situation.

"Swine flu" epidemic broke out in Mexico. The infection cases have occurred in other countries as well. Emergency situation has been announced in the United States as 20 "swine flu' infection cases have occurred in 5 states. The World Health Organization has announced outbreak of "swine flu" in the North America "threat to global health."

"Swine flu" is a fatal virus. The disease is known to be caused by influenza A subtypes H1N1,[4] H1N2,[4] H3N1,[5] H3N2,[4] and H2N3.[6]. There are small cases of infection among people. The infection is mainly prevalent among those who have been in direct contact with pigs.
