SOCAR examines opportunities to use Azerbaijan’s thermal water

06 April 2009 [10:05] - TODAY.AZ
Thermal water reserves in Azerbaijan's Caspian-Guba and Kur-Araz lowlands can be used to provide local people with heating, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) Ecology Department said.

Water reserves with the increased mineralization in the Absheron peninsular and lower-Kur sedimentary plains can be used to produce iodine, bromine, boron and other microelements.

Thermal water reserves in the Talish-Lankaran region can be used in agriculture to heat greenhouses, besides balneological purposes.

Using these proposals can bring great income to the country.

The supposed thermal water reserves in Azerbaijan whose temperature fluctuates between 35 and 100 degrees Celsius make up 400,000 cubic meters per day.

Thermal water is one of alternative energy sources.
