Azerbaijani, Russian governments to ink agreement to protect and promote mutual investments

The Azerbaijani and Russian governments plan to sign an agreement to protect and promote mutual investments, Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Vasiliy Istratov told journalists on March 13.
"I hope the document will be signed during the next meeting of intergovernmental economic cooperation commission," Istratov said.

The ambassador said the intergovernmental commission's next meeting will take place in Baku by summer.

According to the Russian Federal Trade Service, goods turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia amounted to $2,402.5 million in 2008 and increased by 39.3 percent compared to 2007. Export made up $1,991.1 million (increase by 42.6 percent) and import - $411.4 million (+25.4 percent). Trade surplus comprised $1,579.7 million.

Bilateral goods turnover amounted to $1,931.7 million (+26.3 percent), including import worth $348.9 million (+34.5 percent) and export worth $582.8 million (+10.6 percent), the Azerbaijan State Statistic Committee reported.
