17 December 2008 [12:45] - TODAY.AZ
Georgian Minister of Economic Development Lasha Zhvania voiced hope by results of the fifth session of the Coordination Council on Construction of the Railroad Baku-Tbilisi-Akhalkalaki-Kars that despite serious challenges, the global financial crisis will not affect the construction of this railroad.

The session, held in Tbilisi on December 16, was chaired by co-chairs of the Coordination Council - Lasha Zhvania and transport minister of Azerbaijan Ziya Mamedov.

"This project is important for both sides. We have considered the issue of attraction of additional investments for implementation of this project, which is a serious condition for employment of the local population, residing along the route. They will have an income and the infrastructure will develop. I hope the project will not stop and will be complete within the scheduled period, which Azerbaijan guarantees", announced Lascha Zhvania.

The importance of the project for Azerbaijan and Georgia was also stressed by Ziya Mamedov. He noted that during today's session the sides considered seven issues and came to a single opinion on all of them.
