05 December 2008 [15:14] - TODAY.AZ
WTO is not a consumer but a trade organization. Its aim is not  to trade everywhere with everyone, but no to protect consumer's rights or create a favorable reasonable price policy for consumers, said chairman of the Union of Free Consumers of Azerbaijan Eyub Huseynov.

He said he is against Azerbaijan's accession to WTO.

"In case it happens, our country will have to introduce a quote on spending of funds, received from agricultural sphere, to the development of this agriculture, which is an unpleasant and alarming moment for local agriculture, which is not in the best state", said he.

According to Huseynov, it is good that Azerbaijan unline Georgia and Armenia, is carefully treating the perspective of WTO accession has not become its member though it applied for membership 10 years ago.

"But the negative fact is that little has been done for the real strengthening of country's economy, especially, agricultural sector, through the past 10 years. In the result, without accession to WTO, local market is filled with foreign goods, while local producers can hardly rival them", said he and added that Azerbaijan's WTO accession can profitable only for some local monopolists, who import foreign goods of mainly low quality and high ranking officials, who either back such monopolists or cooperate with them.
