Representative of Iranian railway administration speaks for creation of consortium on North-South railway corridor construction

Creation of the international consortium for implementation of the project of North-South transport corridor will accelerate commissioning of this route, intended to connect the railway networks of China and India with the European one.
ITAR-TASS reports that the due announcement was made by representative of the Iranian railway administration Mahmudreza Keymanish, participating in the session of a trilateral Russian-Azerbaijani-Iranian expert group on creation of the North-South expert group in Baku.

He said the issues of formation of a consortium, which are critical legal aspect of the project implementation, are discussed in Baku today.

"If we manage to create a consortium, we will remove all obstacles on the way to initiation of the construction of the section to connect China and India with Europe via Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia", said Keymanish.

He noted that the creation of such an international consortium will become "the most important task of the near future" for the railwaymen of the three countries.

As for a long-term program, the Iranian expert noted that it implies construction of a railway sections Qazvin-Resht-Astara in the territory of Iran and Astara-Astara, connecting two cities of the same name on the borders of Azerbaijan and Iran.

He announced that the construction works had already been initiated at the Qazvin-Resht section and they have been completed by 30%. "The work is now held on one of the most complex sections of this direction due to the landscape", said Keymanish.

Commenting on the construction of the Resht-Astara section, the representative of the Iranian railway administration noted that the works have not been launched there, yet, he said "they are not expected to be difficult, as the area on which the road will be laid is plain".

At the same time, Keymanish noted that it is also planned to hold a secion of Astara-Astara highway in the territory of Azerbaijan.
