Azerbaijan to be involved to project of Trans-Adriatic pipeline construction

Azerbaijan's Minister of Industry and Energy Natik Aliyev met with head of Swiss EGL-AXPO Robert Lombardini.
According to a source from the Ministry, the meeting participants noted that EGL-AXPO implements large projects in Italy, Greece and France.

The company in cooperation with Statoil Hidro works at the construction of the Trans-Adriatic pipeline, envisioning gas supply to Italy via Greece and Albania along the Adriatic Sea shelf.

The Swiss company intends to attract Azerbaijan to the project.

In the near future Albania and Italy intend to sign an agreement on the project. Considering the importance of the issue, it is also planned to sign an agreement on creation of the Azerbaijan-Italy energy corridor.

The meeting participants noted that a decision to create a coordinating council for the rational intergovernmental cooperation on the projects of gas pipelines was adopted during discussions with the EU Commissioner on energy issues Andris Piebalgs.

The meeting participants also discusses issues of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Switzerland on the use of alternative energy sources.

It should be added that a meeting of energy specialists of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Greece and Italy on the gas supplies to the European market will be arranged in late May and an agreement on transportation of Azerbaijani gas via Turkey to Europe will be signed.
