Site of research nuclear center not defined yet

"There is no problem with implementation of project for the construction of research nuclear reactor in Azerbaijan.

This project has been proposed by the government.

We proposed a small reactor in the first version, but we want a strong reactor so that we can use it in medicine and other fields. An agreement was achieved on financial issue at a result of talks carried out by the International Atomic Energy Agency and state bodies of Azerbaijan,” Adil Garibov, director of the Institute for Radiation Problems of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences told APA.

He stated that experts will carry out initial investigations in 2009.

“Our government will allocate financial assistance to the implementation of project. There will not be any suspicion on the implementation of the project. The site of research nuclear reactor has not yet determined. It is not easy to set a suitable site,” he said.

Next experts of IAEA will visit Azerbaijan in April.
