Azerbaijan not to join Open Skies now, AzAL Director General says

16 May 2007 [14:25] - TODAY.AZ
In the short run Azerbaijan doesn’t intend to join the Open Skies, Jahangir Asgarov, Director General of Azerbaijan Airlines State Concern (AzAL), told the 2nd Caspian Air Cargo Summit under way in Baku.

He attributed Azerbaijan's position not to join the Open Skies to the country's being a small one, APA reports.

"Azerbaijan is a small country. It is earlier now for us to open up our airspace," he added.

He noted that Caspian Air Cargo Summits are important to promote Azerbaijan's opportunities.

"We suggested holding the summit in every autumn," he added.

Euroavia International and Silk Way Airlines have today started the 2nd Caspian Air Cargo Summit in Baku. The event has brought together representatives from more than 25 airlines companies in the world.

Azerbaijan is located on the Ancient Silk Way and at the crossroads between Europe, Middle East and Asia, and Baku is gaining importance as a cargo hub.

This Caspian country is known for its amazing natural wonders like mud volcanoes and flames that spontaneously erupt from the ground creating flaming torches.
