Telecom companies to be privatized by 2009

Azerbaijan intends to complete privatization of telecom structures by late 2008, the Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Iltimas Mammadov told.

He said that the privatization is slated under ICT Development State Program for 2005-2008 (E-Azerbaijan Project).

He added that Aztelecom, Baku Telephone Unit, Baku Telegraph, Azermebuatyayim, Orbita Station of Teleradio Unit, Overhead Satellite Stations, and joint ventures are open for privatization.

The work on pre-privatization structuring and management improvement has continued in these units, APA reports.

The State Committee for Public Property Management carries out economic assessment of the state-owned shares of the facilities to be privatized.
