CAREC workshop held in Baku

Yesterday workshop has been held in Baku within ADB-supported the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation.

Economic Development Ministry official Samir Valiyev spoke on Azerbaijan's cooperation with Middle Asian countries.

ADB Central and Western Asia Department official Sona Sherestha said the principal main of the workshop is to brief the Government and international organization representatives about the Project, and each of the Central Asian states has a priority in the economy.

"Azerbaijan's priority is oil sphere. But transportation between these countries is not satisfactory, the transit fees are high."

Director of IMF Near and Central Asian Department, Sena Eke introduced Coordinating Committee for commercial policy.

The workshop was attended by representatives from the Economic Development, and Finance Ministries, APA reports.

CAREC Program is an ADB-supported initiative to promote economic growth and raise living standards in the region by encouraging economic cooperation. The program covers Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

ADB plans to allocate $1.5bn for this project in 2006-2007.
