Georgia might receive additional gas volumes under stage 1 of Shah-Daniz project

16 July 2005 [09:22] - TODAY.AZ
Georgia is probable to receive additional gas volumes under Stage 1 of Shah-Daniz Project. Mike Skitmor, the head of the project, told a news conference on Friday, the Georgian government appealed to Azerbaijan with request to deliver additional volumes of gas in the amount of 3 billion cu m of gas a year under Stage 1.
Georgia is interested in receiving additional gas from the end of 2005 and is eager to increase it to 3 billion cu m by 2007. "A special working group has been established and relevant discussions were held in this respect. A meeting of an Azerbaijani-Georgian interstate commission was held on 8 July focused on several important issues, as distribution of gas to be produced under Stage 1 had been shared between Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia under the contract signed earlier,” he noted.

However, Skitmor said that the Azerbaijani and Georgian governments were proposed to consider opportunities for ensuring part of natural gas deliveries which Georgia wants to receive under Stage 1. "This issue is still to be resolved,” he noted.

According to Skitmor, under Stage 1 Turkey will receive 6.3 billion cu m of natural gas a year, Azerbaijan – 1.5 billion cu m a year and Georgia – 0.8 billion cu m a year.
