RWE reitrates support to Nabucco project

03 May 2012 [10:13] - TODAY.AZ
German utility RWE still supports Nabucco gas pipeline project, but it must meet the company's economic requirements in terms of profitability and volumes for the Czech gas transmission system, New Europe reported with the reference to the official representative of RWE Supply & Trading Sabine Jeschke.

"I can confirm that RWE's attitude towards the Nabucco project is unchanged, meaning important to us is that the project meets our economic requirements in terms of profitability and volumes for the Czech gas transmission system," Jeschke said.

Nabucco gas pipeline is one of the Southern Gas Corridor projects, which is designed to transport gas from the Caspian region and Middle East to the European countries. Gas to be produced within the second phase of Azerbaijani Shah Deniz field development is considered as the main source for Nabucco.

Currently the consortium considers options to export gas to the southern-eastern and central Europe, which include Nabucco West and SEEP. The final decision on a pipeline route to export Azerbaijani gas to the European markets is expected in 2013.

Jeschke said that Nabucco consortium is currently analyzing the implications of the reconfigured Nabucco pipeline (Nabucco-West).

Nabucco-West, which is the short version of the project, envisages the construction of the pipeline from the Turkish-Bulgarian border to the Austrian Baumgarten.
