Polish man shot in the head, realises it 5 years later

The 35-year-old in Bochum, west Germany, visited doctors to have a lump removed from his head, assuming it was a cyst that had caused him recurring pains.

He was then left baffled by police claiming that they found a .22 calibre bullet in the back of his head.

Although the man has a hazy recollection of the events, he stated he remembers receiving a blow to the head around midnight at a New Year's party 'in 2004 or 2005', though he can't remember because he was 'very drunk', according to a police spokesman.

'He told us he remembered having a sore head, but that he wasn't really one for going to the doctor,' the spokesman said.

Local police aren't treating the incident as suspicious, as they believe another reveller fired the gun towards the sky in celebration.

'It may have been a shot fired up in the air which entered his head on the way down.'

The man is expected to be released from hospital later this week, after having the bullet removed last week.
