Countries that have a special love for Armenians have one
peculiarity: usually, the authorities in these countries bring the situation to
a deep crisis.
In Canada, following France, the government is rapidly
collapsing. Local television reports that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is
already considering options to resign in order to hold new elections as soon as
possible, before his approval rating drops too much.
Over the past few days, both Housing Minister Sean Fraser
and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland have resigned.
Moreover, Freeland managed to announce her resignation just
a couple of hours before she was scheduled to speak in the House of Commons
about the country's financial situation. Freeland was considered the most
influential member of Trudeau's cabinet and the "grey cardinal" of
the Canadian Liberals.
She is leaving at the most inconvenient time. A trade war is
raging with Trump, who promises to impose tariffs of 25% on Canadian imports.
The economic situation remains dire, and there is an acute housing crisis in
the country. The Canadian dollar is close to its lowest point in 20 years.
Canada is flooded with migrants, and the social system is becoming
dysfunctional.
Scandals have been surrounding Freeland herself, which
definitely does not help Trudeau's popularity. The collapse of the Canadian
government could bring elections closer, where the Liberals, with a rating of
20%, are likely to lose badly. The Canadian Conservatives, who have adopted the
Trumpian slogan "Canada First," are poised to win. As a result,
members of Trudeau's cabinet are fleeing like rats from a sinking ship, not
wanting to go down with their embattled prime minister.
