Donald Trump's victory, Macron's hypocrisy and President Ilham Aliyev's indisputable arguments

The US presidential election has ended. The counting of votes continues, but it is already clear that Donald Trump has become the 47th president of the United States, quickly securing more than the 270 electoral votes needed to win. It is now confirmed that on January 20, 2025, he will take the oath of office and begin his duties. Additionally, the Republican Party has won a majority in the Senate, the upper house of Congress.

As we can see, experts who questioned Trump's victory have been proven wrong, particularly those who declared the inevitability of Kamala Harris’s triumph. Those who claimed that Trump, as an outsider, would not be allowed to win by the American elites have also been disproven. Trump's return to the White House has turned out to be a decisive triumph.

Now, we are witnessing the hypocrisy of many European politicians who, after years of opposition to Trump, have rushed to congratulate him on his victory. French President Emmanuel Macron is one of them. We all remember how frequently and harshly Macron clashed with Trump during his previous presidential term. Later, including during the US election campaign, Macron clearly opposed Trump’s victory. Yet now he sends him congratulatory messages. At the same time, Macron is calling for European Union partners to coordinate their actions in response to Trump’s victory. “We need a coordinated European strategy in relations with the United States,” Macron is now saying—despite his approval ratings in France being at a shamefully low level.

In contrast, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has always been an unequivocal supporter of Trump. He even promised to celebrate with champagne after Trump's victory. Moreover, we all remember that Orbán visited Florida during the US presidential race and met with Trump. “Peace Mission 5.0. It was a great honor for me to visit President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago today. We discussed ways to establish peace. The good news of the day is that he is going to solve this problem!” Orbán wrote on social media at the time.

At that moment, the European Union threw a tantrum, but now, as we can see, they are rushing to pay their respects to the 47th President of the United States. This is the hypocrisy of European politicians on full display! I would like to note that Viktor Orbán has proven to be one of the most prominent and consistent European leaders. It is symbolic that today, at the summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), he was awarded the “Highest Order of the Turkic World.”

Let me remind you that Orbán was the first European Union leader to congratulate Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the full restoration of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country following a one-day anti-terrorist operation in the Karabakh region. This act alone speaks volumes!

Additionally, Orbán has repeatedly praised President Aliyev, calling him a wise and capable leader. “We understand each other in foreign policy. Over the past ten years, I have learned a lot from President Aliyev—how to lead a country well in an extremely difficult situation. Unfortunately, I could not adopt all his knowledge, because we tend to be more radical, while he is known for his more moderate approach. I have much to learn from him about becoming more successful in the international arena in a more balanced way,” Orbán said last January.

Orbán’s comments are correct, and many other European politicians and leaders have acknowledged the accuracy of his assessment. Finally, I would like to note that the President of Azerbaijan has also congratulated Donald Trump on his convincing victory in the US presidential election. This was not just a congratulatory message but also a letter containing specific proposals that align with the interests of both Baku and Washington.

More importantly, it was a letter from the President of Azerbaijan, who had previously expressed support for Trump. When asked who would be more preferable for Azerbaijan as the new US president, President Ilham Aliyev diplomatically answered: “The decision will be made by the American people.” At the same time, President Aliyev noted that “there were no wars” under Trump’s presidency. “There was no Vietnam, Korea, Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, or Syria during his term. This is something worth recognizing and respecting,” he said.

Now, we see that Trump has reiterated that his goal is to end all wars worldwide. Reflecting on his previous presidency, he pointed out that the United States did not engage in new conflicts during his time in office. This confirms the political foresight of President Aliyev, whose strategic vision and arguments have once again proven to be accurate. This, coupled with Azerbaijan’s leadership role in the South Caucasus and beyond, is leading to positive developments in Azerbaijani-American relations.
