20 October 2010 [15:53] - TODAY.AZ
It is necessary that Azerbaijan is studied in the United States, producer and host of the Azerbaijani radio channel in the U.S. Parvana Abbaspur said.

"What is important is holding concerts of Azerbaijani musicians, organizing exhibitions of paintings and sculptures, translation of publications of our poets and writers, organizing of the Days of Azerbaijani Culture in the U.S., displaying Azerbaijani films and speeches at various conferences," Abbaspur noted.

"I left for America in 2000. Two years later, I became interested in the structure of existing programs to explore methods of teaching and learning the history and culture of different nationalities. Indeed, many American universities are studying the language, history, culture and ethnography of many countries. And I think it is worth to study ancient history and rich culture of our country in these universities along with other countries,” the presenter said.

"I met with our distinguished scholars Parvin Ahanchi, Javid Huseynov and Adil Bagirov in this year's 15th session of the Association for the Study of Nationalities (ASN). While talking to Mrs. Ahanchi, I realized that she was also concerned about the study of history and ethnography of our country in American colleges. And I have hope that Azerbaijan, its language, history and culture will be explored not only in the University of California (UCLA), but also in other universities in New York soon. But this is a dream for the time being," she said.

"We do make some efforts. On October 18, 2006, on Day of Azerbaijan's Independence, our community in New York opened a Sunday school of the Azerbaijani language. I gladly accepted an offer to conduct lessons there. This was the first Azerbaijani school in that far abroad. And I am proud to be the first teacher of this school. We want our children to learn and not to forget their language, culture, history and tradition and know each other, communicate and make friends. It should be noted that the Azerbaijani mission in UN and the Azerbaijani Embassy helped us a lot," the presenter said.

"A year later, we began to publish our newspaper, the only one in America. It is already more than a year we even have n Internet radio. It is on air on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 1 on local time (20-22 hours Baku time). In the two-hour program, we talk about our famous people, forgotten traditions, history and pain of our people. I have hosted various scientists, musicians, poets, linguists, doctors in my own “Shenbe gonagi" (Saturday guest) program. Of course, every work has its difficulties, puzzles, obstacles. But despite all this, I have done a great job on my own. I want you to reveal another secret. I have got a half-hour time on TV and will go on air along with my team very soon," Abbaspur added.
