25 January 2010 [13:56] - TODAY.AZ
On January 25, 2010, the Turkic Student Association at Berkeley (TSAB) with support and sponsorship of Azerbaijani-American Council (AAC) published a major Winter 2010 issue of the  first Turkic-American magazine Birlik. The new 50-page issue of the magazine features an exclusive interview of Birlik editor with the founder of Fuzzy Logic and a world-renowned scientist, Professor Lotfi Zadeh of the University of California Berkeley.

Birlik (which means "unity" in all Turkic languages) started out as a student magazine of TSAB to inform readers about culture, history, geography, political and economic life of Turkic-speaking people. In her introductory note to  the Winter 2010 issue,

Birlik's chief editor, TSAB founder and AAC officer, Uldouz Berenjforoush, states: "Our goal was to create a magazine through which we could reach more people on campus and bring those who are interested in writing and sharing their Turkic experiences together".

Initially published in 2008 with support from AAC and the Turkish-American Business Connection (TABC), Birlik became the first and only all-Turkic magazine issued in North America. Copies of Birlik's first issue were presented to the members of California State Assembly upon a visit by AAC delegation in May 2008.

The cover page of the new Birlik is dedicated to human rights issues of the Uyghur community in East Turkestan. Being the first major publication under the Pax Turcica Initiative, the Winter 2010 issue of Birlik also features an interview with the Consul General of Azerbaijan in Los Angeles, articles by the leaders of the Turkic-American grassroots organizations, scholars, business professionals and students representing various Turkic nations.

AAC thanks all the contributors to the Winter 2010 issue as well as all TSAB activists for the productive partnership to promote the Turkic-American cause.
