‘20 January’ tragedy marked in USA

11 January 2012 [12:52] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijanis in USA mark the 22nd anniversary of the 20 January tragedy. US Azeris Network (USAN) launched a new campaign and disseminated articles, adopted statements and resolutions to the Parliament.

The letters sent to the US officials say: “The sovereign Azerbaijan was occupied by Soviet armed forces, from January 19-20, 1990. 170 men were killed, 321 missed, more than 700 wounded and hundreds taken into custody. These tragic events were remembered with cruelties but also opened a way to independence and freedom. In spite of the last 20 years, millions of Azerbaijanis and friends of Azerbaijan visit the Alley of Martyrs in Baku, on January 20 to revere memory of brave sons and daughters, who gave their lives for the country`s independence”.
