Azerbaijan's judo fighters win third bronze medal

World judo cup has wrapped up in Baku and Minsk. Female judo fighters vied for three sets of medals on the second day of championship in the Azerbaijani capital. Unfortunately, none of Azerbaijani athletes could climb the podium. Azerbaijan took 9th place among 11 teams with a bronze medal and 5th place outperforming Belarus and Georgia. Ukrainian female athletes showed best results claiming two gold, one silver and four bronze medals.

In men’s event in the Belarusian capital of Minsk, the athletes competed for four sets of medals on the final day of the championship.

In the 81 kg category, Azerbaijani judo fighter Rustam Alimli defeated Vitali Shevlyuk (Belarus), Jaroslav Loshchinin (Ukraine), lost to Yoel Razvozov (Israel) in the semifinals but then defeated Alexander Marmelyuk (Estonia) and secured a bronze medal.

Unfortunately, other Azerbaijani players Murad Rajabli (81 kg) and Elmar Gasimov (100 kg) failed to reach the podium. In the team event, Azerbaijan ranked 8th with two bronze medals and two 5th places among 17 teams. Russia was the best with four gold and three bronze medals.
