Azerbaijani para-atheletes win 7 medals

Azerbaijani paralympic judo fighters successfully performed at the European Championships, held in Walsall, the UK.

The judo fighters have brought home a clutch of seven medals, including four golds from the 2017 IBSA European Judo Championships, Azertac reported.

The gold medals came from Ilham Zakiyev (+100 kg), Rovshan Safarov (81 kg), Sevda Valiyeva (57kg) and Khanim Huseynova (63 kg).

Bayram Mustafayev gained silver in the men's 66kg weight class, while Ramil Gasimov (73 kg) and Huseyn Rahimli (66 kg) claimed bronze medals.

The championships took place at the University of Wolverhampton Sports Complex in Walsall, and were followed by a three-day training camp.

Great Britain last hosted the IBSA European Judo Championships in 2011 in.

Judo was first considered a martial art activity for practicing mobility, until it was included for the first time as a competitive sport at the Paralympics Games in Seoul in 1988. Women's weight categories were included at Athens Games in 2004.

In 2013, Azerbaijani two-time Paralympic champion and four-time European champion won gold medal at the IBSA Judo European Championships.

Ilham Zakiyev (100+ kg) won gold medal, while  Sabina Abdullayeva (57 kg), claimed silver.

In 2015, Ramil Gasimov (73kg) claimed the gold medal at the European Championship in Portugal.

In the women's 63kg weighing class, Afag Sultanova added bronze to Azerbaijan's medal haul.
