Radik Isayev tops taekwondo Olympic ranking

Azerbaijani taekwondo fighter Radik Isayev (+80kg) has topped the updated Olympic ranking of the World Taekwondo Federation.

The taekwondo fighter tops the ranking with 504.7 points, Azertac reported. Isayev is 2nd in the world ranking with 341.04 points.

Azerbaijan’s another fighter Milad Beigi Harchegani (80kg) ranks the second both in Olympic and world rankings.

Radik Isaev has punched his way into the history books as he became the first Azerbaijani to win an Olympic taekwondo gold at the Rio Games 2016. He secured the gold medal thanks to a victory over Nigerien Abdoulrazak Issoufou Alfaga in the final.

The taekwondo fighter also won the gold medal at the 2014 European Championships Men's 87 kg and bronze in 2013 World Championships.

Milad Beigi Harchegani won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Taekwondo is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional martial arts, that teaches more than physical fighting skills. It is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing our spirit and life through training our body and mind

Taekwondo is one of the most popular sports in Azerbaijan. The National Taekwondo Federation has trained many prominent athletes since its founding in 1992. Many of those athletes now enjoy international recognition.

In 2016, the World Taekwondo Federation named Azerbaijan Taekwondo Federation as The Best Member National Association of the Year.  

Moreover, the Coach of the Year award was won by Azerbaijan’s Reza Mehmandoust.
